Telcos are enhancing SMEs growth in Tanzania
The country’s national development vision specifically highlights how important small and medium enterprises are for the economy. It is estimated that the SME sector consists of over three million businesses that collectively contribute to over 25% of the country’s GDP.
It is crucial, therefore, that we support this sector as it continues to grow.
Everyone knows the benefits of the telecommunications sector for individual consumers. Our telcos provide us with data packages, allow us to call our friends and family easily and their apps make our lives easier.
However, Tanzania’s telcos are also hugely supporting the business community.
Tigo Pesa was one of the first companies to sign up to the Government’s e-Payment Gateway. Working with the government, Tigo has ensured that it is a lot easier for businesses to pay their bills.
Apps like Tigo Pesa have also supported businesses in collecting payments due to them. Customers can pay for their transactions using their mobile money app and even pay their employees too using the app. It is reported that over 70,000 companies are using Tigo’s services in this regard.
In addition, Tigo has launched a WhatsApp service for all customers, including its business customers. This service allows its customers to quickly get in touch with its customer service with any queries and ensures personalised and quick responses.
As the number of SMEs – and their contribution to our wider economy – continues to expand, it is good to see that telcos are working to provide supportive services.
